A culinary expert defines cooking as
" ...... applying heat to food. But cooking is as much about the ways heat changes the food as it is about the heat itself. That's because heating food does more than just make it hotter. It changes the food in other ways, too." (Alfaro, n.d)
This definition draws me to this question Is cooking just about applying food to heat and the ways heat changes the food? Many people will define it in their own personal way for many reasons. It could be of their own experience, what they have learnt from culinary school or heard from someone else. Critically thinking, I will see cooking beyond that. It is not just about applying food to heat but about combining ingredients in YOUR unique way.
MY DEFINITION OF COOKING
Cooking is defined as a form of art where you can express yourself by being innovative, creative and unique of combining ingredients and adding flavours to make delicious dishes.
In other words cooking is about YOU and how you prepare dishes in YOUR unique way. I observed on the food network channel that chefs are moving away from the 'MUST HAVE' in preparing a dish to 'ADDING THEIR OWN STYLE' in preparing delicious dishes.
My question for you today Do you think cooking is just about applying heat to food? How do you define cooking?
